Laurelhurst House
With Assisted Living and Specific Needs
Laurelhurst House is a locally owned and operated, licensed assisted living community nestled in the heart of SE Portland, offering 38 comfortable studio apartments and a genuinely different approach to assisted living.
While 22 of our apartments operate under a Specific Needs Contract through the Oregon Department of Human Services, serving individuals living with serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders, the care philosophy, programming, and staff training that defines that program extends to every resident who calls Laurelhurst House home.
We also accept OHA funding, and those residents receive the same level of support, engagement, and attention as anyone else here. No tiers, no points system; just one community with a higher standard of care for our resident population across the board.

One Unique Community Built for the Full Spectrum of Care
Not everyone fits the standard assisted living model. Not all people come with standard-issued needs, and we built Laurelhurst House with that in mind.
Laurelhurst House is an assisted living community in SE Portland, proudly licensed through Oregon DHS. 22 of our 37 studio apartments operate under a Specific Needs Contract, serving adults living with serious and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. Our remaining residents are older adults and adults with disabilities who thrive in the same setting, the same culture, and under the same care philosophy.
Our SNC program is one of relatively few residential settings in Oregon specifically designed and staffed for this population. Our team is trained in trauma-informed care and harm reduction, and we work directly with ODHS case managers and community behavioral health partners to build support plans that reflect how people actually live.
Laurelhurst House is one community, not two programs running parallel. Everyone here shares the same small, integrated setting and the same core belief: that consistent, dignified care doesn't have an asterisk.
The SNC program is not the right fit for everyone, and I’d rather have that conversation upfront than after everyone has invested time in the process. If you’re trying to determine whether Laurelhurst House is the right placement for someone you work with or care for, I’m happy to talk it through directly. Reach out and ask for any one of our management team so that we can discuss our programming and if we would be a good fit for you, your client or your loved one.
We welcome inquiries from case managers, discharge planners, ODHS coordinators, and families. If you're not sure whether Laurelhurst House is the right fit, reach out and we'll help you figure that out together.
“The vibe is that they have an appreciation for everyone there in their own uniqueness.”

Tenets of Care
The Philosophy of Purpose
Anew Living Core Values
As humans, we thrive on connection, meaning, and purpose. This need doesn’t fade with age or cognitive decline; in fact, it becomes even more critical. Research shows that individuals living with memory challenges or care needs experience feelings of loss, frustration, and isolation. A purpose-driven approach to care can help mitigate these feelings, improving overall well-being and quality of life.
The Power of Connections
Anew Living’s Commitment
In the heart of our senior living communities at Anew Living, personal connections are the cornerstone of our approach to care. We believe that meaningful relationships not only enhance the quality of life for our residents but also nurtures a supportive community where everyone feels valued and understood.
The Discovery Process
The Anew Living Lifestyle Profile
At Anew Living, we believe that a fulfilling life is one rich with purpose, connection, and engagement. Our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents goes beyond traditional care; it involves a proactive approach to understanding their unique needs and aspirations.
